Nigerian Presence in Texas and the RCCG Heritage
Texas has the largest Nigerian population in the United States, with a significant number residing in Houston, Texas. The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) is a Christian denomination founded in 1952 by Pastor Josiah Akindayomi and is presently led by Pastor Enoch Adeboye. Today, RCCG comprises over 4,000 branch churches worldwide.
RCCG is first and foremost a Christian church, made up of people from diverse cultures and ethnicities, united by a mandate to share Christ’s message of hope and grace with all people. Worship within RCCG is expressed through various programs, including International Sunday, Festival of Life Services, regular Sunday worship services, and Tuesday Bible Study meetings.
A Celebration of Cultural Diversity at Salvation Center San Antonio
Salvation Center San Antonio is a unique and eclectic mix of nationalities, ethnicities, and peoples. The church community represents over twelve distinct tribes and languages spanning Nigeria, West Africa, African American, and Hispanic backgrounds. All are bound together by a shared love for and worship of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
This diversity makes interactions within the church rich, exciting, stimulating, and transformational. One of the key ways this cultural richness is celebrated is through the annual International Sunday, where music, dance, and traditional attire from each ethnic group and nationality are showcased in a special worship program.
Honoring Heritage and the Universality of Christ
In addition to International Sunday, members are encouraged to attend the first Sunday service of every year dressed in their native, colorful attire—a longstanding tradition of the Redeemed Christian Church of God worldwide (sourced from www.rccg.org).
This practice reflects the church’s recognition of the universality of Christ’s message—one that is boundless, all-inclusive, and welcoming to all people. At Salvation Center San Antonio, everyone is welcome.
The Founding and Growth of Salvation Center San Antonio

What began as a small mustard seed has grown steadily through God’s grace and faithful leadership.
